Mini Feed Reader

Another gadget designed specifically for use on GMail, you can now monitor the latest updates from any RSS (or Atom) feed – news, blog entries, whatever – within the sidebar of your page at mail.google.com.

Unfortunately, there's currently no easy mechanism for adding a gadget directly to GMail, as there is in iGoogle. It's a manual process. Here are the required steps:

  1. In GMail, click the Settings link (at the upper-right), and go to the Labs tab.
  2. In Labs, turn on the Add any gadget by URL feature (currently towards the bottom), and save your changes.
  3. Back in Settings, go to the Gadgets tab.
  4. Copy & paste in the following URL to activate the gadget:

http://gad.getpla.net/feed/reader.xml

Like my other GMail gadgets, Mini Feed Reader is also perfectly usable on iGoogle, as a compact alternative to the default reader. To get a copy for yourself, just click to add it to your iGoogle home page.
