Daylight Map Gadget and Mapplet
An interactive, real-time view of global day and night, including city lights on the night side. Adapted from my DaylightMap.com website. Leave it open for a few hours and watch the night creep around the globe, or leave it open for a few months and watch the midnight sun shift from one pole to the other.
Note that the basic day/night view is also available as an option on my Clouds gadget.

This gadget is also compatible with GMail, meaning you can now have a DaylightMap in the sidebar of mail.google.com. Unfortunately, there's currently no easy mechanism for adding a gadget directly to GMail, as there is in iGoogle. It's a manual process. Here are the required steps:
- In GMail, click the Settings link (at the upper-right), and go to the Labs tab.
- In Labs, turn on the "Add any gadget by URL" feature (currently towards the bottom), and save your changes.
- Back in Settings, go to the Gadgets tab.
- Copy & paste in the following URL to activate the gadget:
http://www.daylightmap.com/daylight_mapplet.xml
